The Journey Begins — My Renaissance Path
Every story deserves a beginning. This is mine.
I’m Rasheed. I’m 23. I study engineering, but my life refuses to be summed up by a single title. I train in the dojo and under the bar. I read the old books and tinker with new code. I run across the pitch and sit with a chessboard when I need quiet.
I’m a brown belt in karate — a practice that taught me discipline more than any speech ever could. I bench-press to test my limits — 100 kg was a milestone that felt equal parts sweat and patience. I play competitive football for the joy of teamwork, not the applause. I lift, I learn, I build. I lose sometimes, and I learn more each time.
I don’t aspire to be a master of one thing. I want to be a builder of many things — a modern Renaissance man who stitches knowledge and practice together. Philosophy gives me perspective. History gives me context. Coding gives me a way to structure thought. Engineering teaches me how to turn ideas into things that stand. Chess gives me patience, not perfection.
This blog is my lab and my journal. Here I’ll keep what I learn — the experiments that worked, the ones that failed, the books that altered my thinking, the workouts that hurt and healed, the small projects and the ideas that grow teeth. No showmanship. No pretense. Just process.
Why "UnderFourThirty"? Because 4:30 a.m. is the hour when the world is quiet, when distractions are few, and the only competition is the weaker version of myself from yesterday. It’s the time when discipline is tested, when the easy choice is sleep — and I choose to rise, train, read, write, and build. UnderFourThirty is more than a name; it’s my reminder that greatness is forged in the hours no one else sees.
If you’re curious about how a life becomes a craft, or if you’re tired of being told you must be only one thing — stick around. I’ll share practical notes, honest progress, and the kind of lessons that only repetition can teach.
This is not a promise of instant wisdom. It’s a promise to keep showing up.
Welcome to the lab. Let’s level up, together.

DeleteHey, Rasheed. I didn't check what time it was when I started reading until I reached "Why UnderFourThirty?" Then I checked that it was 4:33am so I probably started reading at at 4:30am and I wanna say that it's a great piece. You take life as it is and that's the beauty and philosophy of it, I guess. I liked when I read "I don’t aspire to be a master of one thing. I want to be a builder of many things — a modern Renaissance man who stitches knowledge and practice together." It kind of tells me that that's how life is. We gotta understand that there are so many mysterious things out there that we know nothing of then I ask why do we want to be just one thing or believe in one thing that we actually don't even that we believe in it. And that's where then Bertrand Russel says "I will not die for my belief because what what if it is not true". Keep writing and keep this lab shiny with your original pieces like this one. Best wishes to you, Rasheed!
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Awais.

ReplyDeleteThis is incredibly well-written and genuinely inspiring. The way you've connected your diverse interests—from the dojo to the code—shows a clear and compelling vision. The name 'UnderFourThirty' isn't just clever; it’s a powerful statement about the kind of commitment you have. I'm looking forward to reading about your process and the lessons you learn along the way. This is a journey worth following."
ReplyDeleteyour blog is seriously addictive. Can’t wait for the next post
ReplyDeleteRasheed, your manifesto resonates with the rare spirit of intentional living — a harmonious fusion of intellectual pursuit, physical discipline, and philosophical grounding. The eloquence with which you weave together the arts of mind, body, and craft speaks not merely of ambition, but of a deliberate commitment to self-mastery through multifaceted growth. Your 4:30 a.m. philosophy is a testament to the quiet heroism of unseen labor, and the humility in your words reflects a depth of character that is both inspiring and instructive. This is not just a personal narrative — it is an invitation to embrace the rigors and rewards of a Renaissance path in an age of distraction.
